The Punjab government will organise Punjabi Film Festival every year on the lines of Indian Film Festival to give recognition to outstanding and off-beat Punjabi films, State's Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal announced here today. Speaking here on the sidelines of the premiere of Punjabi film "Aaj De Ranjhe", directed by Manmohan Singh, Badal said that Punjabi cinema has evolved in recent years and has been giving a stiff competition to Bollywood as far as quality and standard of film making is concerned.
He also said that the Punjab government was fully aware of the need to promote Punjabi cinema and this festival would be catalytic in giving impetus to Punjabi films to strive for the best. Badal also praised Manmohan Singh for his film "Aaj De Ranjhe" and said that besides being entertaining, the film conveys the underlying message to the masses. He said that he was happy that this film has tried to educate public regarding reforms in Punjab police. (PTI)
