Renowned Punjabi singer and actor Gurdas Mann, stated that media is equally responsible for vulgarity being spread in Punjabi singing these days. The reason for this is the kind of content being broadcasted by the media on TV. People are getting influenced by this content on the TV adding that internet is another medium through which vulgarity is getting promoted.

He was in Sangrur to celebrate Lohri for girls termed as Daughters’ Day. Mann also pointed at singers who want to gain popularity by singing cheap lyrics. He said that a language is something to be proud of and should be given its due respect. He said that a song should be such that it can be enjoyed with the family.

Well-known poet Surjeet Singh Patar stated that daughters are being harassed in Punjab, land of gurus and saints. He said that neglecting a daughter was like neglecting your own land. He said that one who gains popularity through cheap lyrics is not an artist.

Jaswant Singh, a noted writer, stated that it is not a woman who should be taught to conduct herself, rather boys should be taught how to respect girls. This will control the harassment done to women to a great extent. Pammi Bai, Punjabi singer, stated that vulgarity is solely due to the media. If this does not get promoted then people will not have an access to vulgar content to a great extent.

He also stated that women need to raise a voice against the evil of female foeticide, which is on a rise in Punjab and nearing areas. He added that if a woman does not want to get her child aborted then no one can force her as there are strict laws.
