Perched atop the success of 'Jatt & Juliet', singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh is still trapezing at the edge of the vortex called commercial diktats, still teasing the marketing harness that drives success, and still following the rules of his heart. Market diktats be damned! For Diljit has proved, yet again, that numbers don't always steer success. Referring to his latest success, his solo music album 'Back 2 Basics' that is climbing international charts steadily, Diljit is glad that the numbers in pop music success did not hamper the progress of 'Back 2 Basics', which in his words, "Is a basic and rustic album."

He adds, "For me, Back 2 Basics was special. This album was one of those decisions that people don't term as 'commercially intelligent'. Yet, you don't always take decisions from the mind, some are taken from the dil...this was one of them." With an ensemble of rural folk instruments like tumbi, tabla etc, and no bassline or kick, no hip hop, Diljit says the album typifies Punjab for him, his native land that he is very attached to. "This album was pagal panti, I agree. But for once, I wanted to make something that is meri pasand, not what the marketing gurus stake claim at," says Diljit who is beaming at the fact that the songs are becoming popular at portals frequented by youngsters for downloading music, "This shows that our youth are still connected with folk music." But with this Diljit doesn't intend resting his dil decisions...for an artist who has found a harmonious blend between commercial viability and his heart's yearnings, Diljit is working on, "more subjects that are close to my heart and which I will start making in the next two years," says
Diljit who is in Canada currently to shoot for Jatt & Juliet 2. Though J&J 2 is second in the series, Diljit says it isn't a sequel. "The story is completely different from the first and doesn't start from where the first ended."

As for all the expectations mounting around the second film, trying to meet standards set by J&J, Diljit is unfazed. "We had a blast while making J&J. And all the fun we had while filming it, reflected in the film. So, maybe this time too we'll repeat our party and wait for the audience for an after party," he quips. For one who started as a singer and then meandered his way into films, Diljit says he is still acquainting himself with the filmmaking process. "When I debuted in The Lion Of Punjab, I had no clue absolutely about the process. I would stick to the director's words as gospel. But when we were shooting for J&J, I was more aware and did have a feel that the film might take off. Though, honestly, when I first saw the rushes, I told the director that it seems there is only me in every shot, where are the others!" he laughs.
